There are many project management tools to choose from, but Asana is one of our favorites. Asana is software that helps teams coordinate and manage their work, and helps organizations move faster by making sure everyone knows the team’s plan, process, and who is doing what by when. In our opinion, it enables you, as a project or campaign manager, to track your team’s work in a quick and easy way. You can define your work – from projects to processes – and assign people to specific tasks, easily swiping each task from one status or team member to another.
Organize any campaign, process, or project as a List, Board, or Calendar. When any team member clicks on the task, there’s room for attachments, details, and conversation. And, just like most modern messaging and social media apps, you can ‘like’ comments from your team to let them know their work is appreciated (Asana’s co-founders built Facebook from the ground up, so the feature is also a nod to its consumer technology roots).
This ability to communicate with your team directly through the app is one of the best features of Asana, marrying conversation with the actual work your team is tracking. It replaces unstructured and irrelevant email and chat conversations. On the other hand, I do like to receive (email or push) notifications on the tasks and comments relevant to me, so I don’t miss any updates.
In sum, Asana balances your need for transparency with your need for focus, making it a very useful work management tool to have in your collaboration toolbox. And if you’re looking to up your marketing productivity game, Asana (also known generally for its great marketing), has also recently released The Marketer’s Playbook — its own definitive guide for marketers interested in turning strategies into action and helping their team focus on the small steps that lead to big results.
Asana offers a free try out and premium plan for $9.99 per member per month. The company also offers enterprise pricing, but you’ll need to contact the firm directly for more details.
If Asana doesn’t do the trick for you, try one of their biggest competitors, Trello.
