Tell us about your marketing philosophy.
I believe it’s our job to keep on top of the best tools and practices, help our clients see things in a new way and help them reimagine how they approach their marketing and sales. The digital world is changing so quickly. We need to provide real value by helping people find solutions to existing problems or anticipating challenges before they occur.
Radiohead or Drake? Radiohead.
NYC or SF? SF all the waaaay!
Reuben or BLT? BLT
The Wire or Breaking Bad? The Wire
G&T or IPA? IPA!
What do we need to learn?
We’ve got to stop using acronyms and other marketing-speak and, instead, put ourselves in our clients’ shoes. In my experience, the language of marketing is a challenge for small- and medium-sized businesses. Many people want to give themselves the skills to feel they are driving their own marketing efforts, and I believe we can empower our clients to do this while still being indispensable to their organization.
I think a good marketer will work as an educator and consultant to their clients, translating jargon into practical, actionable ideas.
If we want to stay relevant in the long haul, we need to be educating our clients and make them feel like we are their go-to source of relevant, understandable information as things constantly change.
Why SF AMA?
I’d been going to chapter events for a while and wanted to be more connected to the marketing community. I like to put myself out there. I was also invited to manage the Adwords account for the chapter, paid by a grant from Google. I had experience managing Adwords campaigns for some of my freelance clients, so I thought this was a great chance to sharpen my skills and apply what I already knew to a bigger opportunity.
